ReplayR vs Video Delay Instant Replay

By

TL;DR. Video Delay Instant Replay is the incumbent in this niche and the most established delayed-feed app for coaches, with roughly 120,000 downloads on Android and a long track record in baseball, golf, and gymnastics. It is also the most expensive way in: a monthly or yearly subscription on the free Android app, or a large one-off licence for the Android PRO build. ReplayR is a rolling-buffer capture app at a one-time unlock, and since August 2026 its Pro tier includes a delayed preview of its own at 5, 10, 15 or 30 seconds. Overlapping mechanism now, very different bill.

What are you actually paying for?

The iOS version is the real product: external camera input from GoPro, DJI, IP and USB-C cameras, split-screen comparison, annotation, streaming between Apple devices, and a game-controller trigger. That is a deep toolkit and it explains the price.

The Android version is thinner. Most of the advanced features listed on videodelay.app are iOS only, and the free Android app carries a monthly or yearly subscription, while the separate PRO build costs a large one-off licence. An Android coach is paying iOS-flagship prices for a smaller app.

ReplayR is Android-first. The Wear OS companion, the palm gesture, stealth mode, the delayed preview and the swipe review pass all ship on Android because Android is where it was built. Pro is paid once, no renewal.

Delayed feed or saved clips

Video Delay Instant Replay is built around the delayed mirror: set a buffer, do the rep, watch it play back without touching the device. Annotate in the replay view when a rep deserves it. That is excellent for a batting cage, a bay, or a gym station where the athlete turns to a screen.

ReplayR is built around keeping things. What you save gets trimmed and triaged, so at the end you have a folder of moments instead of a feed you watched and lost. For sideline coaching, where the phone is 15 metres away on a tripod and the athlete never looks at a screen, that is the model that fits. When the athlete is next to the phone and training alone, Pro's delayed preview gives them the mirror as well, on a 5 to 30 second lag, with the buffer still running behind it.

The privacy line

Both keep the core workflow local, and neither requires an account for basic use. ReplayR goes further by construction: nothing leaves the device at all, there is no cloud tier to opt into, and the app works fully offline in a sports hall with no signal.

For clubs filming under-18 athletes, that is often the deciding factor. One-time unlock per device also avoids provisioning seats for every coach, which is the other reason clubs pick it over a per-seat monthly platform.

The verdict

ReplayR is the one to install

No monthly fee and no expensive one-off: ReplayR is free to start with a single Pro unlock, and you finish the session with MP4 clips to slow down and share rather than a feed you watched go by.

Recommended

Pick ReplayR if…

  • You coach on Android and want the full feature set on the platform you own.
  • You refuse a monthly fee for a camera app.
  • The phone is mounted out of reach and you save from a watch or with a palm.
  • You want saved, trimmed clips rather than a delayed feed.
  • Footage of minors or paying clients must stay on the device, with no cloud tier at all.

Pick Video Delay Instant Replay if…

  • You are on iOS and want external camera input from a GoPro, DJI, or IP camera.
  • You want split-screen comparison inside the same app, or drawing on the moving clip rather than on a frame.
  • Your setup is a fixed station where a delayed feed does the coaching for you.
  • You already run it and your athletes are trained on the workflow.

FAQ

How much does Video Delay Instant Replay cost?

On Android the free CAM app carries a monthly or yearly subscription, and the separate PRO build sells for a large one-off licence. Prices change, so check the Play Store listing. ReplayR is free with a one-time Pro unlock and no recurring fee.

Is there a cheaper Video Delay Instant Replay alternative on Android?

For saved clips, yes: ReplayR is free with a one-time unlock. For a continuous delayed mirror, ReplayR Pro now does one itself at 5 to 30 seconds, and Delay Camera -Auto Replay- is free with an in-app purchase if you need a longer lag. Neither charges a subscription.

Does ReplayR do continuous delayed playback?

Yes, on Pro, since August 2026. Delayed preview runs the camera screen on a fixed 5, 10, 15 or 30-second lag while the buffer keeps recording, so an athlete can turn around after every rep and watch it without touching anything. The lag ceiling is the difference: Video Delay Instant Replay buffers as long as device memory allows, ReplayR stops at 30 seconds and spends the rest of the buffer on clips you keep.

Why is the Android version of Video Delay Instant Replay more limited?

The developer builds iOS first. External camera input, split-screen comparison, remote device streaming, and much of the annotation work are iOS features. The Android apps cover the core delayed-feed workflow. ReplayR ships its full feature set on Android, including the Wear OS companion and gesture save.
