A typical nets workflow

  1. Setup. Tripod side-on, outside the net. Stump height for batting work, delivery-stride height for bowling work. Buffer 45 s. 1080p or higher on Pro. Stealth mode on.
  2. Start of the session. Tap Start on the watch or the phone.
  3. During the session. Tap after any delivery worth reviewing. The run-up that preceded it is already in the buffer.
  4. Between bowlers. Leave it running, or reposition the tripod if you are switching from batting work to action work.
  5. End of session. End on the watch, swipe through the saved deliveries.

FAQ

What buffer length suits cricket?

Forty-five seconds is enough for a single delivery including the run-up, and that is the unit that matters for both bowling actions and batting technique. A fast bowler's run-up plus delivery plus the shot rarely exceeds twenty seconds, so 45 gives you comfortable margin either side. If you are reviewing a whole over as a unit, use the 3-minute Pro buffer, since an over takes roughly three to four minutes of real time including field changes.

Can I use it for bowling action analysis?

For the gross mechanics, yes: run-up rhythm, front-arm position, hip-shoulder separation, follow-through. Slow-motion playback at 0.25× shows all of these clearly at 1080p. What ReplayR does not provide is frame-by-frame stepping, angle measurement or drawing tools, which is what a dedicated biomechanics or analysis app is for. Export the MP4 and continue there. Also note that any serious action assessment, particularly around legality of elbow extension, needs proper testing rather than phone video.

Where do I put the phone in the nets?

Side-on to the batter at roughly stump height for batting technique, and side-on to the bowler's delivery stride for bowling actions. These are two different positions, so decide which you are working on before the session rather than compromising between them. Net sessions are the easiest cricket filming environment because the distances are fixed and short. Keep the phone outside the net itself, a cricket ball will end a phone.

Does it work for a full match?

It works, but think of it as a tool for capturing deliveries rather than recording matches. A full day of cricket is far longer than any phone battery, and the rolling buffer is designed to give you the last delivery on demand, not an archive. Coaches typically use it in the nets and during specific spells rather than continuously.
